Subtropical moisture is set to collide with an Arctic front over the next few days, causing a long-lasting winter weather event.
Weather Alert Days: A series of storms will disrupt travel across western Montana into early next week. Expect moderate travel impacts with several rounds of snow and colder temperatures over the next 4 days.
We’re going to see a continuation of active weather today as the Arctic front pulls into the Glacier region during the afternoon hours. Northeastern winds of around 35 mph may combine with bursts of snow, creating difficult driving conditions.
As we get into the early evening hours, the airmass will move into the Flathead Valley, quickly cooling temperatures to the single digits. We’re likely to see a quick inch or two of snow and windy conditions during this time.
Looking forward into Monday morning, we’ll see the arctic front moving through west-central Montana during the early hours. This will cause gusty winds and rapidly falling temperatures. It’s likely to stall in the Missoula Valley. By around late Monday, we’re going to see moisture increase, bringing areas from Alberton eastward along I-90 periods of light to moderate snowfall and gusty winds by the evening hours.
Motorists be advised that this could cause whiteout conditions.
This will push southwards into the Bitterroot Valley overnight Monday.
