Born on July 7, 1949, in East Liverpool, Ohio, Tom was the son of the late Marion Merle and Vera (Hupp) Kirkbride. He was a graduate of East Liverpool High School and served in the United States Army as a medic. Tom retired from General Motors after 33 years of service.
A member of the New Lisbon Presbyterian Church, Tom served as an elder. He was also deeply involved in the Lisbon Lions Club, where he dedicated nearly 40 years of service, holding several leadership positions, including President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Board of Directors member. His work with the Lions extended to numerous roles at the state and district levels, including Ohio 13-D District Governor, State Global Membership Team Coordinator, State Ohio Lions Foundation Representative, State Youth Chairman, District Membership Chairman, State Finance & Planning Committee, District Cabinet Secretary and Treasurer, and District Convention Chairman. Tom’s remarkable service earned him many prestigious awards, such as the Club Presidents Award, 100% Secretary Award, Lion of the Year, Council of Governors Award, Knight of the Blind Award, Extension Award, International President Leadership Award, the esteemed Melvin E. Jones Fellowship Award, and the Journey of Hope Award. He was also a certified Guiding Lion.
Tom is survived by his wife, Nancy (Morris) Kirkbride, whom he married on July 19, 1969. He leaves to cherish his memory daughters: Myra (Mike) Kilgore of Glenshaw, Pa., Amy Coontz of Leetonia, Ohio, and Sarah (Jason) Julian of New Waterford, Ohio. He leaves behind a sister, Barbara Baughman of Columbiana, Ohio, a brother, Gary (Jeri) Kirkbride of Atwater, Ohio, and sister-in-laws Joyce (John) Pack and Helen Myers. Tom will also be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Parker and Malina Kilgore, Cierra and Olivia Coontz, and Emma, Luke, and Bo Thomas Julian, as well as his great-grandsons, Isaac Bowman and Calan Thomas Clark.
He was preceded in death by his beloved granddaughter, Ashlee Coontz, and his brothers-in-law, Larry Baughman and Bruce Myers. The family will receive friends and family from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Weber Funeral Home. A Lions Club service will be held at 3 p.m. The funeral officiated by his friend, Wayne Christen, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Lisbon Cemetery.
