MAGALIA, Calif. – The Paradise Unified School District held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Health & Wellness Resource Center on Tuesday.

Officials say that the Health & Wellness Resource Center will provide comprehensive services to support the well-being of both students and families in Paradise, Magalia, and Sterling City.

As a central hub, the center connects students and their families with the essential local and county resources to ensure that ongoing support to foster their success and well-being continues.

Key offerings to help families and support student health and development includes the following:

Basic need support and connectionsFood and clothing assistanceMedical, dental, and mental health referrals and supportHousing and shelter resourcesCrisis intervention and suicide prevention referralsSupport groups for families and grandparents who are raising studentsImmunization, vision, and dental referrals and informationEarly childhood education and childcare referralsTransportation servicesTutoring and mentoring programsFamily support for those with students participating in special educationFuture parenting workshops and educationsLegal aide referrals

Carrie Dawes is the Safety and Wellness Coordinator for the Paradise Unified School District, and officials say that Dawes and her staff led the project from the grant writing to the grand opening of the new center.

The support of the entire Paradise Unified School District staff and school board members has been unwavering. While the resource center is located in Magalia, officials say that it serves all students and families within the PUSD boundaries.

Officials say that California Community Schools Grant partially funded the project to focus on the whole-child approach to education.

The Paradise Unified School District says that they recognize that students cannot learn effectively if their basic needs, such as having enough food, developing self-management and relationship-building skills, and having assess to positive mentors, are unmet.

This is why the new resource center has partnered with the following organizations to provide services to students and families on the Ridge:

Student and family referrals can be made on the Paradise Unified School District website under the wellness tab.
