Western Michigan University (WMU) Theatre’s production of the three-time Tony award nominated show “POTUS: Or, Behind Every Great Dumbass are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive” will open Friday, Sept. 27.
“When the President unwittingly spins a PR nightmare into a global crisis, the seven brilliant and beleaguered women he relies upon most risk life, liberty, and the pursuit of sanity to keep the commander-in-chief out of trouble,” the event page reads.
POTUS will run Sept. 27 to Oct. 13 in York Theatre and marks the kickoff of WMU Theatre’s 2024-25 season.
Featuring an all-female cast, POTUS is a non-partisan political satire about seven women trying to keep the president alive whilst working to avert a national crisis.
“I absolutely adore this show,” WMU student and cast member Kate Wilen said via messaging. “The badass bitchery of it all and the fierceness of this cast and crew makes me love it even more.”
The show, while centering around political concepts, aims to bring people together through comedy, according to Wilen.
“I know anyone coming to this show will find something to love about it, no matter what their political beliefs are,” Wilen said.
WMU student and cast member Laura Thuy-Tran Nguyen agreed.
“Students should come see POTUS because it’s fun! The script is so funny, and we always have such a blast every time we do it,” said Nguyen.
She continued: “Audiences will experience a hilarious time watching these seven women put their heads together to get through a difficult day at the White House.”
POTUS is not suitable for children and features adult language and humor. Patrons under the age of 16 will not be admitted.
WMU students can receive $7 tickets by calling 269-387-6222.
