MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) -The Mississippi Arts and Entertainment Experience celebrated First Saturday at The MAX from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Guests and their children enjoyed free admission all day while exploring an interactive center celebrating Mississippi’s creative culture and artistic genius.

From 10 until noon, children could get creative and paint colorful pictures while learning more about the history of the MAX and the Hall of Fame inductees.

Heather Lacoste, Education Director at The MAX, shares why she personally enjoys First Saturdays at The MAX.

“I really enjoy First Saturdays because entire families will come in to sit, so we have multiple generations who are sitting down and painting together, maybe using old pastels or sketching, or there are all kinds of art activities. But I have really enjoyed seeing the sketches and the old pastels and the multi-generational, you know, relationships where you know life is busy. I don’t always have time to sit down and paint, but it’s really neat to see, you know, a kid paint a photo of Natasha Trethewey and then go find her in the museum and learn about her, and so there’s a lot of sharing that happens when that happens,” says Heather Lacoste, Education Director at The MAX.

Everyone in attendance had a great time learning about Mississippi culture.
