Meet Dexter and Leo, adorable best friends, but also an unlikely pair. Dexter is a Golden Retriever and Leo is a Continental Giant rabbit…and he is big! Their pawrents brought Leo home a year ago and weren’t sure how the two would get along. Turns out, they absolutely love each other.

Their mom shared a video montage on TikTok at the beginning of March showing how the two spend their time together. From the looks of things, they do everything together! It’s the sweetest video you’ll see today, and it will definitely make you smile.

Dexter and Leo’s video totally warmed my heart! We have a dog and a mini rabbit and that bunny will not let the dog anywhere near him…I can’t imagine the two of them becoming besties! Maybe it’s because Leo is so big or something. What a special bond they have!

People loved seeing the two together and left nearly a thousand comments about their friendship. @desupepper got more than 13 thousand likes when she pointed out, “The bunny running around the dog means they love the dog a lot!” I totally agreed with @bbylibra when they said, “This could be a children’s book!” and @Megs comment made me smile, “Golden Retrievers are the capybaras of the dog world. They just get along with everyone and everything.” I also smiled when @lex said, “Thank you for getting your dog a pet! LOL!”

Clearly Leo is a very big rabbit, and I wanted to see if I could find out how big he is. These rabbits are one of the largest domestic rabbit breeds around and are descended from the Flemish Giant. They weigh on average about 25 pounds and are about 3 feet long. In short, they’re huge!

Wide Open Spaces explains a bit more, “The Continental Giant, lovingly nicknamed Conti, is one of the largest rabbits worldwide. The name Continental Giant actually refers to a collective group of giant rabbit breeds, which are named specifically after their respective country: German Giants are giant rabbits from Germany, Belgian Giants are giant rabbits from Belgium, Spanish Giants are giant rabbits from Spain, etc.”

They also shared this fun fact, “The largest rabbit recorded is a Continental Giant Rabbit named Darius, who weighed over 50 pounds and measured four feet, four inches long!”

Like many rabbit breeds, Contis are an easy-going pet and are described as gentle giants despite their size. Because they’re so gentle, they make great pets for children and get along well with other animals. They’re described as friendly and intelligent, which makes them easy to train. And believe it or not, rabbits are a lot like dogs when it comes to training. Our rabbit responds to his name and loves to play games (tug of war is a favorite!). Rabbits can be taught to use the litter box so they can roam the house freely, as Leo does. Before we got our dog, ours did!
