THE TIF DISTRICT JUST OFF I-35 WOULD BRING IN MORE RETAIL, DINING AND A NEW ARENA THERE. KOCO MEGHAN MOSLEY JOINS US NOW LIVE FROM ROCK CREEK ROAD AND I-35. MEGAN, THIS TIF DISTRICT HAS BEEN MET WITH A LOT OF CONTROVERSY. YEAH THAT’S RIGHT. AND THAT ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICT, LIKE YOU SAID, IS GOING TO BE PLANNED FOR HERE IN NORMAN ALONG ROCK CREEK ROAD. AND NOW COUNTY LEADERS ARE GOING TO TAKE IT UP FOR DISCUSSION. NOW, THE ROCK CREEK ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICT IN NORMAN IS MOVING FORWARD. AND IT’S ON THE AGENDA FOR THE CLEVELAND COUNTY RECREATIONAL AND ENTERTAINMENT FACILITIES AUTHORITY. IT’S THE ONLY ITEM ON TODAY’S AGENDA, AND IT’S TO APPROVE THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AGREEMENT FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICT. NOW, THIS TIF DISTRICT OR TAX INCREMENT FINANCING DISTRICT IS PLANNED FOR THE AREA ALONG I-35 AND ROCK CREEK ROAD. THE TIF DISTRICT WOULD PAY UP TO $600 MILLION FOR AN ARENA, A PARKING GARAGE, AND RETAIL. THAT MONEY WOULD COME FROM SALES TAX GENERATED BY THE DISTRICT. AND OF COURSE, THIS ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICT HAS COME WITH A LOT OF CONTROVERSY. A GROUP IN NORMAN EVEN PETITIONED AGAINST THE DISTRICT, ASKING FOR THE PUBLIC TO STEP IN. HOWEVER, A CLEVELAND COUNTY JUDGE RULED THAT THE PROJECT DOES NOT NEED TO GO TO A VOTE OF THE PUBLIC. AFTER FINDING THAT PETITION INVALID. Cleveland County leaders on Friday will discuss an entertainment district that would bring more retail, dining and a new arena to Norman. The tax increment financing district that would fund the Rock Creek Entertainment District near Interstate 35 and Rock Creek Road has been met with a lot of controversy. Plans for the district are moving forward, and it’s the only item on the agenda for the Cleveland County Recreational and Entertainment Facilities Authority. The TIF district would pay up to $600 million for an arena for the University of Oklahoma, a parking garage and retail space. That money would come from a sales tax generated by the district.
