WACO, Tex. — The Badgers finally found a way to get into the win column, coming back from two sets down Friday to beat TCU 3-2 (25-15, 27-29, 21-25, 25-16, 15-11).

The Badgers registered double-digit kills, including Sarah Franklin who had 18. Devyn Robinson tallied 5 blocks while Charlie Fuerbringer continued her fiery start with 43 assists.

Wisconsin’s stars shined in the opening set. CC Crawford and Julia Orzol produced kills and and an ace to give the Badgers a 10-5 lead, then Sarah Franklin added a kill to hammer that advantage.

Carter Booth and Devyn Robinson got in on the action later in the set to put things out of reach for the Horned Frogs. Gulce Guctekin and Lola Schumacher came up with crucial digs to give the Badgers a chance to score.

The second set was volleyball at its most entertaining, though the Badgers came out on the wrong side of the fight. After going down 7-4, the Badgers scored 3 straight to tie the set. From that point on, no team ever led by more than 2 points.

Something that won’t appear on the scoresheet but made all the difference was TCU’s blockers. Even if they didn’t always score, their strong play forced the Badgers to reset and oftentimes swung the momentum of the point.

The Horned Frogs built an early 5-1 lead in the third set, capitalizing on attack errors from Franklin and Booth. Wisconsin fought back to within a point, however they could never tie or take the lead. TCU registered three consecutive kills to win the frame.

Attack errors are what doomed the Badgers in the set, as they committed 10.

For the fourth match in a row, Wisconsin entered the fourth set with their backs against the wall. But unlike those last matches, this time they lived to see another set.

The Badgers came out on the right side of several tense rallies, and put together strong scoring runs. There was only one instance where TCU scored back-to-back points. Meanwhile, the Badgers posted a 4-0 run in the middle of the set, and ended with a 3-0 run.

That momentum carried into the fifth set, where the Badgers opened on a 4-0 scoring run that included an ace on the opening serve by Charlie Fuerbringer.

That was the first of 3 aces by the Badgers in the set as they fought their way to victory. A service error from Evan Hendrix handed Wisconsin the match point.

The Badgers will be back in action Saturday night against No. 23 Baylor starting at 7 p.m. CT.
